SHELTER PROJECT
“Somewhere to Lay my Head” is a shelter project for displaced families, many of whom reside in places that are deemed uninhabitable, with no sanitary conveniences. Unfortunately, these families do not meet the legal requirement for Food for the Poor (FFTP) Houses. In addition, the head/s of these households are unemployed with several children.
Living Hope Jamaica has launched a block drive to assist some of these families in building basic structures along with toilets, where necessary, and to reinforce others with plyboard and zinc. The cost of a block is $110.00, sponsors may contribute to purchase as many blocks as they can afford.
. Families are also assisted with counselling interventions and basic supplies.
The following families are our current focus for housing:
Head of Household: Nordia Smith
Nordia shares a one room wooden structure with her nine (9) children and two grandchildren.
Heads of Household: Lavern &Trevor McPherson
The McPhersons and their six (6) children have been asked to leave the property that they now reside on but they have nowhere to go. Their belongings have been badly damaged
Heads of Household: Tyrock Aford and Shadea Panton
Tyrock & Shadea live with their two children, in a structure made of reused zinc. The children are constantly sick as when it rains, the porous material does not protect them.
Shadea’s Family House
Head of Household: Davea Williams
